Nature Sounds Control

GreenEarth® Cleaning
It is rare that we get to live in the time of major evolutionary changes. For instance, the lightbulb changed the way we see the world, the automobile changed the way we get around, the cellular phone and how we communicate, and NOW... we can say we were alive when the dry cleaning industry went "green". GreenEarth, that is! It may seem funny, but it really is an incredible shift in the way things are been done. You can be proud to say that you were on the leading edge when technology saved the environment, forever changing the dry cleaning industry. Ask for it by name, spread the word, look for the symbol, insist on it. You'll be so glad you are "in the know"! The next time someone comments on how great your attire looks, you can honestly let them know why. Blossom Hill Cleaners is your licensed GreenEarth Affiliate.

Why GreenEarth is Best

The GreenEarth Cleaning solvent used to dryclean your clothes is chemically inert.  This means it does not chemically interact with your clothes in any way.  Rather, it carries detergent to your clothes and rinses away suspended dirt and oils trapped by the detergent.

Because it is chemically inert, it is more gentle on your clothes.  Wools do not come out looking "washed out," dry, or full of static.  Silks and acetates are treated more gently.  Colors remain bright and intact since there is no chemical reaction with the solution.  Drycleaners who have seen the GreenEarth system in operation say the garments come out looking like they have been "in a mineral bath," with a soft and gentle feel, and with very little wrinkling.

The solvent is safe for all buttons and trim of any kind.  This makes the processing of your special clothes easier with no special handling.  You will see better service and less problems with buttons being damaged.

And of course, GreenEarth Cleaning is better for you because "it's good for everybody."  You can be assured that your GreenEarth Cleaner is a safer cleaner -- for you, for your garments, for their employees, and for our environment.

As a customer of Blossom Hill Cleaners you are playing a significant role in the future of dry cleaning by using GreenEarth, the environmentally friendly solution with spectacular results. When you think about the dry cleaning products that you allow next to your skin, you'll always insist on GreenEarth.

How Dry Cleaning Came to Be!

Drycleaning is a term that is applied to washing fabrics in a liquid other than water. Using water as the washing agent is termed wetcleaning. This is the process that most of us use in our homes and which is used in commercial laundries.

Legend has it that drycleaning was discovered accidentally in France during the late 1800's. Apparently, someone spilled turpentine on a tablecloth that had numerous stains that could not be removed by washing, but which came out in the areas contacted by the turpentine. Thus, the idea of "washing" fabric in a liquid other than water was born

Turpentine and some other early liquids used in drycleaning posed threats, however. Most were flammable at relatively low temperatures and gave off vapors that were dangerous to breathe. These two issues have always been present when considering various fluids for drycleaning.

In the first quarter of the 1900's, a petroleum-based fluid termed Stoddard solvent was widely chosen because it cleaned well, it could be made widely available, and it was more economical to use than other solvents. However, it had a low flashpoint and caused many explosions and fires in the early drycleaning plants.

In the 1930's, perchlorethylene (or perc for short) was introduced to the industry as an alternative to the Stoddard solvent. It was also based upon carbon chemistry. Perc was a good cleaning agent and had no flashpoint, thereby reducing fire hazard. It rapidly became the solvent of choice for the drycleaning industry. Currently, perc is used by 85% of the drycleaners in the United States and around the world.

Eureka!

For years, there had been no choice but to clean clothes in solvents which have been based upon carbon chemistry. Recently we have found a new solvent -- liquid silicone! Unlike current solvents, it's a solution that is not based on carbon chemistry.

As luck would have it, an inventor was handling a liquid component used in cosmetics and realized it was removing the fats and dirt from his hands. He wondered if that chemical could remove fats, oils, and dirt from clothes. Lo, and behold, it did! While the chemical component had been around for a long time, no one had found a way to use it as a solvent to dryclean clothes. The process of doing so was patented and now forms one of several baseline patents for the GreenEarth Cleaning System.
